Health, Safety and the Environment

The Managing Director, Senior Management and the Workforce are committed to working safely and they view this as an integral part of Milbury Contractors day to day routine.

All personnel are given a comprehensive safety induction when they join the company and are also given site specific inductions on each individual project. They also attend regular toolbox talks and task briefing sessions.

We provide a full copy of the companies Health, Safety and Environmental Policy and Arrangements to every employee, which is then explained to them. They then sign to say that they have read, understood and agree to comply with this document. Therefore every employee has a good understanding of the Milbury way of doing things safely, and we are proud to have a good reputation in health and safety management.

Milbury Contractors actively encourages both Health and Safety and construction skills training. All personnel hold a current Health and Safety Training Achievement Certificate, such as CSCS (Construction Skills Certification Scheme). In addition, all Plant Operators hold a current CPCS (Construction Plant Certification Scheme) Plant Operator’s Certificate, for each type of plant or machinery that they operate. All Site Managers are trained to the CITB Construction Skills SMSTS (Site Managers Safety Training Scheme), and all Supervisors have achieved SSSTS (Site Supervisor Safety Training Scheme). The majority of our Site Managers and Supervisors have also received HSE Approved First Aid training. All details of certificates gained and training received are held at the companies Head Office, both in hard copy and on the computer system. This system automatically creates a reminder when training certificates expire and when a training update is required. Copies of certification can be provided on request.

Milbury Contractors have appointed an external Health, Safety and Environmental Consultant (Meridian Safety Solutions Limited), who provide professional advice and carry out regular health and safety performance monitoring. Workplace visits and inspections are carried out on all current sites to a minimum of once every month. Sites are also visited by Senior Management on a regular basis and Site Supervisors are also entrusted with ensuring that all Personnel and Sub-Contractors (where applicable) wear all necessary PPE, work safely and adhere to method statements and site safety rules. To assist with this, our Health, Safety and Environmental Consultant provides a comprehensive site specific safety management system and, where we are Principal Contractor, a Construction (Groundwork) Phase Health & Safety Plan.

Milbury Contractors acknowledges that its people are its strongest asset and as such it is the company’s responsibility to ensure that they have a safe environment to work in.
